Violin question..found in attic ?
black wooden case with 2 metal latches, 2 bows, French piece of resin(?) Gand & Bernardel, Violin stamped Imperial Violin & has an 8 pointed star with 2 inner circles.. inside label

faciebat anno 1779 (followed by a circle with what might be a cross but not sure. pieces of violin are broken off. want to know if it's worth having it evaluated. It was found during renovation of house, in the sealed attic along with many valuable antiques. The house is approx. 180 years old located in a small town, in Ontario, Canada - found about 35 years ago. Always wondered if it was a treasure or not.
Try and bring it to a violin shop, and ask someone to see if the violin is still in good shape. Usually, a sound for a violin gets better and better as it ages, but after a few centuries, it starts to break down.
If the separate important pieces are still intact, it could possibly be repaired. It is hard to know whether or not it is valuable over the internet.
The best thing to try would be to bring it to a violin shop.
