Metal Knobs
Could my water be carrying enough current to electrocute me when I touch metal knobs in the shower?
I have had 2 electricians out to look at this problem. Every time I take a shower, I feel a slight shock when I touch either of the metal shower knobs or the shower head (connected to the metal water pipe). The electricians have identified possible problems and fixed those, but the problem persists. Could the problem be within the water itself? If I stand outside the shower while it is running and reach in, I feel no shock (in fact, this is how I have been turning it on and off for awhile now). Any suggestions on more things to check? There appears to be nothing rubbing against the pipes in the walls, the cold water pipe is grounded, and outlets/sockets in the bathroom have been checked already. Thanks for your help.
The last electrician that came out was completely certified and from a reputable company.
Is you electrical house system grounded to a connection below your shutoff valve and is it metal to metal contact and not painted? The wire should be bare copper #6 or bigger ( pencil thickness of bigger) and it should be TIGHT! Also--check that your phone and cable TV grounding straps/wires are connected to a separate grounding source and that your water heater is bonded to the cold water metal pipes also. Any one of these, if not done correctly, CAN and will shock you in the shower. If you need an electrician to check this--don't go on the cheap and use a non-union one--union guys cost more--but they are trained 5 years instead of questionable training non-union guys get if at all.
