Is there a link between non conformist society and collery brass bands?

Is there a link between non conformist society and collery brass bands? If so what do you think it is and sources please?

Colliery brass bands used to abound in areas where I lived and they were (nine times out of ten) comprised of mine workers. In Britain, most mine workers were Union supporters and Labour Party supporters. They conformed strongly to the political groups who looked to Labour to fight their corner, as opposed to the usually more wealthy classes who supported the Conservatives. They also conformed strongly to the stereotype of the flat-capped man who drank copious amounts of beer at the local Working Men's Club, swearing and smoking profously. Very few of them would ever go inside a church, except for hatch, match and dispatch events.

Colliery brass bands are not to be confused with Salvation Army bands or Methodist bands.

Not being sure what you mean by 'non-conformist society', I cannot say whether colliery brass bands were symbolic of that. The decline of colliery brass bands is due almost entirely to the demise of coal mining in Britain, so if those bands were 'standing' for something non-conformist, they have not stood up for it as their livelihoods vanished.
