Is lumber-core considered Solid Wood?
I own a solid wood furniture store and am considering buying some product which contains lunmber-core. i researched it some online and there isn't much information out on it. I would like to find out if it has the same qualities as regular ply-wood veneer, if it's considered solid wood, if you can fix dents and scratches like solid wood, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Used to make dining room tables in High Point NC. Lumber core tables are still a veneered table with the core being made up of small pieces of wood glued together - ususally popular(cheap). Another popular way of making tables is to lumber band( put lumber all around outside of chipcore then veneer on top) The third method is to veneer on top of MDF. The best method is to lumber band - gives you the most stable table and the edges are real wood and gives you the appearance of a solid table. My experience with solid lumber cores are that they are a bit unstable - wood is a moving substance and in the winter dries out and in the summer swells and the veneer tends to delaminate. You can't fix scratches and dents like real wood. Not too many of the major furniture manufactures use solid cores on big tables. The real cheap Chinese imports are MDF and they paint the edges to look like wood( cheap labor)
