Ventriloquist dummies?

I have recently started ventriloquism, and I was wondering whether I should get a dummy with only a pull string in the back of the head....or a standard upgrade with a lever inside to open and close the mouth....or a deluxe upgrade with a rod inside that opens and closes the mouth and moves the eyes also....or a super deluxe upgrade that has everything the deluxe upgrade has but it also has a button on the rod to move the eyebrows.....I believe that I really don't want to go with just a pull string and I would like the eyes to move as well, but as always they get pricier when you have more features....

So what kind would you get, and what website is a good website to buy from? Thank you for your help....please no negative answers or rude comments....thank you

Get something inexpensive for now. What you're working on now is the technique. What the puppet is is a character, which is something else you will develop.

What has to happen is you have to move from just doing the ventriloquism into making the puppet come "alive." Moving eyes, raising eyebrows, etc. are all nice as a small added touch, but unless you know how to make the puppet work, it won't.

Quite honestly,. I would start with an inexpensive hand puppet for now. Learn how to breath life into that character and give it an actual personality. Once you have that down, then work on a character and find a puppet to match it.

By your questions, I assume you're looking at throwthings.com If you're looking for a cheap, inexpensive puppet with a lot of add ons, that's probably the best bet. Otherwise, you can usually pick up a ventriloquist puppet similar to what you're asking for for a few hundred dollars on ebay that will last you a while. A life-time puppet like that will run about $2000 US on up.
